Hello there !
Sunset Peak is the second highest Peak in Lantau island. It stands at a height of 869 metres above sea level. For a majestic view on the island with an incredible experience above the clouds. There are several ways to reach the peak. One of my favourite is to start from South Lantau Road (Near Nam Shan Barbecue Area and finish in Pak Kung Au on Lantau Road). It is very convenient from Central. You just have to take the Ferry.
From Nam Shan Barbecue area the hike lasts about 2 hours 30 minutes. The path are well maintained. Mostly stairs and natural paths. Perfect weekend exercise, great for cardio and thighs.
Start walking from Mui Wo pier, there is a sidewalk. it is perfectly safe to reach the entrance. You can also take the bus 11.
This is the entrance of the trail in Nam Shan Barbecue area. I usually prefer starting this side since most of the hiker start in Pak Kung Au. It is quite crowded, also the view is beautiful when you go down to Pak Kung Au.
I found this interesting blog about the abandoned villages in Hong Kong.
Lunch on the beach ?
After the hike Cheung Sha Beach and Pui’O beach are reachable by bus, both M3 or 11. Count around 10 minutes by bus from Pak Kung Au to Cheung Sha Beach / Pui’O beach.
There’s restaurants, water sport activities available on site.
Tips for your trip :
1 – To be comfortable bring good hiking shoes or sneakers, sun cream, energizer and water.
2 – Get prepared for high steps stairs.
3 – Bring enough cash and your octopus card for transportation and restaurant.
4 – Bring swimming suits and towel if you decide to go to the beach. (Especially in summer)
Enjoy,
Xxx
