How to get to The beaches by speed boat ?
The fastest way to reach the beaches is by speed boat from Sai Kung Pier.
- Departure : Saikung Pier.
- Arrival : Sai Wan Beach or Ham Tin, at your choice.
- Duration : 25 minutes.
- Budget : HKD 160 (one way) can by both ways at the pier or return only in Ham Tin Beach restaurant.

- Duration : About 1 hour and a half walk + around 40 min to reach Ham Tin.
- Difficulty : Easy.
- Departure of the hike : Pak Tam Au Public Toilet, Maclehose trail section 2.
- How to get to Pak Tam Au : Bus 94 from Saikung pier.
- Arrival : Ham Tin Beach, then can walk to Tai Wan Beach.
- Duration : About 1 hour and a half walk + 10 min to reach Tai Wan Beach.
- Difficulty : Easy.
1 - Tai Wan Beach
The first the most beautiful beach in Sai kung is Tai Wan. The favourite of the list, the sand is fantastic, the view on the mountains is stunning. Feeling like in another country, you wouldn’t believe you are in Hong kong.
2 - Ham Tin Beach
Within the most beautiful beaches you’ll find Ham Tin Beach, accessible by hike or boat. The bay is large and mostly quiet. A pleasure to go for a day or camping night.
3 - Sai wan beach
The third one is small and usually more crowded with tourists. The water is usually clean. From Sai Wan you can walk to the Sheung Luk waterfall and Ham tin beach.
4 - Tung wan Beach
Tung wan is the forth beach, the access is from Tai wan Beach or from Sharp peak. On google map you’ll see a path that will guide you there.
What to do in Tai Long Wan ?
1 - camping on the beach
In this paragraph, I’m going to discuss camping in Sai Wan beach and Ham Tin beach. There are restaurants & rustic facilities. (Toilets & Showers). The restaurants at the beach rent umbrellas (HKD 80), camping equipment, mattresses (HKD 20), tents (HKD 150), sleeping bags (HKD 50), BBQ and the necessary to light a fire on the beach. Therefore Ham Tin is convenient for camping and close by the restaurants.
2 - Relax on the beach
Dreaming about south east Asia beaches? Hong Kong is in the league. Soft and white sand, crystal water, sometimes amazing waves (usually before typhoon).
Sai Kung beaches are surrounded by mountains & luxurious nature. With a bit a chance you’ll see the cows passing by.
3 - bbq on the beach
If you decide to camp, there’s the possibility to prepare BBQ and light fire. Local shops are selling the necessary if needed.
4 - surf
It is possible to rent surf boards for about HKD 100 at restaurant. The waves and streams can sometimes be very strong. Most of the time it is calm water. There is no life guard.
5 - eat at the local restaurants on the beach
The restaurants have sea view, warm atmosphere, their menus is local and simple. Fried rice, pasta, hot and cold drinks. They also serve breakfast. Count about HKD 80 per dish.
6 - waterfall
There is a waterfall site called Sheung Luk stream between Sai Wan and Ham Tin Beach. The stream is in the forest, you’ll have to climb a bit and walk on the rocks along the stream to reach the main pool. During the raining season there’s plainty of water and the stream is clean. Would definitely recommend that time of the year. Just be careful as it gets slippery on rainy days.
Tips for your trip:
1 – If you hike and expect to take the boat back, first thing when arriving in Ham tin, make sure to book your tickets.
2 – Sometimes the waves are too strong so the boat service is cancelled. Get prepared to hike back.
3 – Bring cash as there’s no ATM.
4 – To be comfortable bring hiking shoes for hiking and flip flops or sandals to stay on the beach.
5 – Bugs repellent, sunblock and hats will be your best friends.
