Taiwan has a very specific cuisine and taste that are partly close to the one in Mainland China, more precisely from Fujian province. However, during the Japanese rules, the island has been isolated from China, this part of history has influenced Taiwanese cuisine.

Where to eat in Taipei ?

Taiwanese cuisine is delicious and represents a great blend of Chinese Mainland specialties. Since the Han came during the 17th century followed later by locals from Fujian province, they bring with them the cuisine. Not forget to mention the Japanese colonization in the 1800s.

1 - FAMOUS DINNER IN DIN TAI FUNG 鼎泰豐

Famous for its handmade Xiao Long bao– 小笼包. Xiao Long Bao are steam dumplings from Huai yang cuisine. A team of chefs is preparing them in front of you in the restaurant. You can enjoy authentic food.

2 - LOCAL BRUNCH 秦小姐豆漿店

Famous for its Taiwanese Dan Bing 蚕餅, it was so delicious. I don’t remember the exact name of each dish, kindly find the picture. My Taiwanese friend chooses them for me. Here is more information.

3 - TRADITION MILK TEA WITH PEARL ALSO CALLED LOCALLY ZHEN ZHU NAI CHA – 珍珠奶茶

Go to 十三月- Tredecimber, the staff is lovely, the shop is beautiful and their tea is Delicious. I tried a hundred of them during my 5 years in Shanghai-Hong Kong and this one really worth it!!!!

4 - FAMOUS TAIPEI BEEF NODDLES 牛肉麵.雞湯

Local beef noodle restaurant, tasty and reasonable price.  We tried the 100 years egg with tofu, 
I Love it ! Don’t be afraid by the name and its color. Just try and mix it with the creamy tofu.

5 - SWEET RICE BALL DESSERT: 雙連圓仔湯- 首頁

Those Amazing Desserts. Made with red beans and rice balls. Some are made with ice. The tea comes with it. Here is their website.

The Tang Yuan also called sweet rice balls are the hallmark dessert of the Chinese New Year. Often infused with black tea.

Loving the soft, chewy, and a bit sticky texture. Simple Taiwanese dessert.

6 - SWEET green rice balls with red beans

Special Qing Ming sweet dish from Jiangsu province in China and very popular in Taiwan. Made of glutinous rice and green plant juice to give the color. Those desserts can be also white. Mostly filled in with sweet beans paste. The texture is very interesting, must-try.

7 - go for bào bīng (剉冰)Delicious taiwanese food

The best Taiwanese summer dessert, very popular in Taipei, can be found in the local market. Do not hesitate to go for local market food, you’ll discover new flavours and a friendly atmosphere.

1 – Make sure to enjoy your time 🙂

2 – Share dishes, it is normal in the traditional culture to share dishes. Order meat, fish, vegetables, there are no rules. 

3 – Try the Xiao Long Bao (小笼包)origin is from the province of Jiangsu, China. They are very well done in Taiwan.

4 – Enjoy night market food.
