Dear world Traveler,
Dubai is a true melting pot, expatriates are lovely, services are beyond expectations, the city is clean, safe, easy to go around, food in genuinely delicious. I had no specific expectation before landing. Big surprise!!!
If you haven’t been to Dubai yet (it took me 27 years), Plan a trip between October and March to avoid the hot summer. Don’t forget Dubai is in the desert. 50 degrees isn’t paradise.
Budget for a stay in dubai
Food : From USD 20 per meal
Hotel : Count around USD 100 for nice rooms in Dubai Marina.
Taxi : From USD 3 (AED 12)
Metro : Count around USD 0.95 for starting fare (AED 2)
Dubai tourist activities
1 - dubai desert safari
The Dubai Desert Safari was so much fun. Note there are plenty of agencies and offers for such a tour. They offer the Dubai safari desert tour including the dinner and some shows. All the tours brings you to the same location after the safari tour. So the price shouldn’t be of that much differences except if you agency is offering a nice dinner in a lovely nomad camp.
The one I choose was just ok, we were hundreds of tourists arriving at the same spot, food and drinks were just fine. I was imagining something more local and traditional so I felt a bit trapped. Depending on your expectations.
2 - WAKESURF / Wakeboard IN DUBAI MARINA BAY
If there is a place I love by day and night, it is Dubai Marina. Large residential area along the sea & JBR beach where shopping malls, restaurants & cool activities are concentrated. Fancy coffee shops are lining the waterfront promenade. From here you can book a lot of activities such as diving, Jet sky, helicopter tour & wakesurf.
Note there’s also wakesurf & Wakeboard clubs available near Jebel Ali.
3 - VISIT DUBAI MALL
Don’t miss Dubai Mall knows as the biggest shopping mall in UAE, from the luxury watch shops to the common brand, it has it all. Plenty of activities are organized along the days. There is a huge aquarium with sharks and mysterious creatures, ice skating rink, Dubai Mall Dino lost in the souk. The mall is adapted for kid and provide all the necessary facilities. For those who are thrill-seeker, try Hysteria if you are brave enough to face a live horror movie. Really not for me as a faint-hearted.
4 - OLD TOWN AL SHINDAGHA
5 - GOLD SOUK
Dubai Gold souk offers a large selection of resplendent jewelry, plenty of fine designs , some more Elegant and Luxurious than other. Every woman can find her “Perle rare”.
Shops usually open until 10:00 pm. Do not hesitate negotiate, if you don’t feel comfortable just take it as a game.
6 - AL SOUQ AL KABEER & Al Fahidi souk
This area is close by the gold souk and the old town Al Shindagha. Take the green metro line and stop at Al Ghubaiba. You can then easily walk along the sea and reached textile souk, gold souk, Al Fahidi souk and Dubai Museum. By night is it really lovely and safe to walk around the street.
The district is known for its art galleries, shops, authentic architectures. Very chic and historical district.
After Dubai, I was heading to Saudi Arabia for work purpose. It is mandatory to wear the traditional Abaya. Not knowing much about the tradition I decided to choose a simple Black one. I got it in a shop in Al Fahidi Souk.
Easy access, shopkeepers were nice. Never forget to haggle.
7 - BURJ KHALIFA & dubai FOuntains are splendid
Near Dubai Mall, the majestic Burj Khalifa overlooked Dubai with its 829.8 m. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building of the world since 2009 and more than 120 stories. Tickets are available to go to the highest Observation desk of the world. To build a robust structure and Fantasy artistic shape it require long studies and development of new technological innovations. If you’re looking for special offers or events, the Official Burj Khalifa website has a special corner for it. Don’t miss the Dubai fountain show from 6pm every 30 minutes.

8 - Dubai Atlantis, The palm
Dubai Atlantis is part of Dubai tourist activities, located at the top of the Palm Jumeirah, it is a beautiful 5 stars hotel with an aquapark. Perfect for family holidays.

9 - The palm jumeirah : the palm fountain show
There’s a stunning fountains shows with music at night. It last about 30 minutes. We order dinner at the restaurant Mama Pho and got the surprise during our dinner. Note this restaurant is now permanently closed. There plenty others in the area.
Dubai tourist activities are grandiose and of great quality.
Tips for your trip :
1 – Use the Metro, very convenient to reach the different location.
2 – Taxis are great, note some companies are higher hands and cost most. Go with proper taxi for reasonable fares.
3 – Try middle-east food and all kind of cuisines, they are delicious and authentic. High service.
4 – Enjoy bargaining at the souk.
