Hello there !
In this article I’ll introduce you Chi Ma Wan Country trail, a hike located in Lantau island with an elevation of 722 meters. The hike offers a panoramic view on Lantau Peak and the surrounding islands. The hike starts near the sea up to the mountains by going through the forest.
A 360 degrees view is waiting for you, there are several panoramic spots along the way. The country trail is a gem on Lantau Island. Relatively easy to access and reasonably easy.
Note that Chi Ma Wan Trail is accessible from Mui Wo Pier and Pui’O Beach depending on your preference. I started from Mui Wo as it is convenient to take the ferry from Central pier. Also for beach lover, it is nice to finish and chill on Pui’O beach and come back with the bus M3 to Tung Chung MTR or Mui Wo pier.
Below you will find google map for the 2 options depending from where you start :
For a better visualisation of the hike, here the path to follow to reach the destination. This path is valid for both options. Note that from Shap Long Campsite you’ll reach Chi Ma Wan view point faster, if you don’t want to hike further you can go back to Pui’o Beach.
If you start to walk from Mui Wo Pier the hike takes longer. The first part from Mui Wo to Shap long irrigation reservoir is quite easy and flat. There’s no shops available, Take some snacks and enough water with you.
From Mui Wo to to the entrance of the hike it takes about an hour walk. The entrance is next to the correctional institution and the reservoir. The first picture, take the blue stairs then follow the path.
Below some pictures to help you to find the way :
The Tail isn’t intense, perfect for a nice family walk, enjoying the landscapes and mountain. In summer time might be quite challenging due to the humidity and heat.
Note that there are few sections with stairs in order to reach the view points. Difficulty is reasonable and the path are well maintained.
Pui’O Beach is located in Lantau, accessible by bus from Mui Wo pier or Tung Chung MTR. (Bus 3M)
After hiking the Sunset peak, Lantau Peak or even Chi Ma Wan who wouldn’t fancy a swim or snack on the beach ?
Treasure Island surf camp Hong Kong is a restaurant on the beach of Pui’O. Quiet, fun and peaceful vibe to spend the all day and enjoy stunning sunsets.
