Vienna is pretty small, the city centre is really convenient, pedestrian streets, a lot of coffee, shops, hotels and restaurants. To really enjoy the city, I would suggest to find an accommodation in the ring or nearby. You can then walk everywhere & transportation are very convenient.
I stayed in Heymi apartment in the city centre, very convenient, clean, big, ancient university building with original contemporary staircase. Only 5 to 15 minutes walk from all the main points of interest.
Vienna has a lot to offer depending on your interests, art, museum, palace, ballet, opera, shopping, authentic coffee shops…. The city center is traditional, great services and friendly staff everywhere I went. I had a very relax stay, decided to go with the flow and mood of the moment. Since it was winter time, it was a bit cold, however considering the delicious food and warm restaurants, it was a pleasure all along.
The inner ring part of Vienna is the ancient city, roads are made of cobblestones, ancient white stones buildings, tiny pleasant shopping streets.
The best highlight is the hidden local shops, cafés, chocolate shops, restaurants.
The main museums and places of interest such as old architecture buildings, palaces, cathedrals and churches are there. One or two days are enough to see most of it, of course not into details but gives you a clear picture of Vienna and its beauty.
The illustre café Landtmann since 1873 where Freud sat in Thonet chairs from imperial age offers a coffee & Apfelstrudel menu. Landtmann is an institution, Cozy & elegant atmosphere. The decor remains authentic to give you a back in time experience.
